For better or worse, social media platforms are consistently emulating successful features from their competitors.  Stories, in general, began as a Snapchat feature, before spreading to Instagram, Messenger, Facebook, and Twitter.  Now Twitter is using it as mobile-centered ad placement, as they’ve seen growing ad revenues in the last few quarters.

The phenomenon of virtual sales assistants is something that has been long needed in the retail world. Now, these ‘virtual assistants’ may not be what you expect. There’s no robot walking around the shop (although I’m sure this is a reality at some outlets). Most recently they have come in the form of virtual fitting rooms for clothing at H&Mbeyond or sunglasses at Warby Parker. These technologies not only bridge the distance gap for shoppers out of state or country but also allow massive amounts of data to be collected by retailers. This data will prove to be crucial for targeting consumers as this is essentially zero-party data gathering!

Google Announces its Own Version of App Tracking Transparency See the article here.

Google announces a new data privacy policy where users can opt-out of personalized advertising similar to the new policies of Apple. However, there are a few distinct differences such as having to opt-out to personalized advertising, where Apple is more of an opt-in mechanism. With these changes, mobile I’d numbers will be replaced by a string of zeros instead of the typical mobile ID number.
