In an interesting analysis of Facebook, Snapchat, and Google spending patterns, direct response ads have been an exception to otherwise decreasing revenues.  The fact is that more people are on social media than ever before, and even if advertisers lack confidence in brand and awareness building during this stressful time, conversions, app downloads, lead generation, etc. are still very effective campaigns.  They provide a consumer action that is possible online, and thus very acceptable to engage in.
